An international competition asked students and young architects to choose and explore a 'blurred area' in a town, as a reflection on the urban blur, gathering zones of disruption and instability in the urban environment. We chose a subway in Settimo Torinese, a small town in northern Italy, and its surrounding area. This area was dominated by motor vehicles at day and empty at night. But we showed that - by redressing the balance between the car and the pedestrian and through a new mixed use of the area - it was possible to revitalise this area from early in the morning to late at night.

Un concorso internazionale chiedeva a studenti e giovani architetti di scegliere ed esplorare un'area sfuocata in una città, come riflessione sull'urban blur, zone di risulta, imprecise, instabili nell'ambiente urbano. Abbiamo scelto un sottopasso a Settimo Torinese, una piccola città in nord Italia, e l'area circostante. Quest'area era dominata dal traffico di giorno e completamente vuota di notte. Ma noi abbiamo dimostrato che - rivedendo il rapporto tra le auto e i pedoni e attraverso un nuovo utilizzo misto dell'area - era possibile rivitalizzare l'area sia di giorno che fino a tarda notte.
